Yahoo search
algorithm -
What Yahoo looks for in order to rank a site
well - Looking at Yahoo's algorithm, we notice
that it is more about the page, than about the
site overall, as is the case with Google.
Yahoo also powers one time leading engine Altavista,
uses ex-engine all the web as its place for experiments
such as the now available live search on Yahoo
which displays queries as you type.
It also powers many other secondary engines,
plus newspaper and portal sites too. And with
talks of Microsoft buying them out, this is an
engine not to be overlooked.
Here are some factors in Yahoo's algorithm
-
1) Focuses more on the optimisation of an individual
page (a well optimised page can stand out, even
if the rest of the site is sub par)
2) Classifies some of a sites "link strength"
by its presence in Yahoo's own Directory (http://dir.yahoo.com/)
3) Main measurement factors include
o Keyword Density of individual pages
o Title tags
o Back links
o Domain name suffix (i.e.: .co.uk)
o Words used in the page URL itself - looks at
the URL / Domain name itself to find keywords.
4) Only main search engine that has a "commerce"
aspect in its natural results. "Trusted feeds"
or "Yahoo Search Submit Pro" as its
now named, can be used where companies pay to
have their sites listed in the natural results.
This basically gives Yahoo a feed of optimized
duplicates of your pages, which it then "trusts"
so to speak.
While in previous companies, we have worked with
(and gained certification for) Yahoo SSP in the
past, and can make sure you maximize such campaigns,
evolution search marketing is NOT a certified
reseller at the moment.
5) Have been accused in the past of hand coding
rankings for competitive industries
6) Looks at domain name region as well as hosting
location when determining results (e.g.: Unlike
in Google, it is still possible for a .co.uk site
to be hosted in the US and rank for a UK only
search at this point)
7) If you are in the US and searching on Yahoo
UK you will get US PPC results that wanted to
show in the UK, as opposed to Google, where you
can view other countries results more easily.
8) Also factors the size of the site, but not
as much as Google
