marketing - the history
key steps:
Find out how the site grew strength, with key
steps in the site's build and visibility shown
below. This is after we determined our site content
and brand name - which was done prior to going
live.
Day one - basic content goes live for
the first time (images and deeper pages to be
added later), basic structure and text content
for the time being. The domain was purchased on
the 28th, after checking no one else had it (whois)
and if it had any history as a site in previous
lives (archive)
- which if it did is not necessarily a bad thing.
Some good domains expire and become available,
but thats another story.
Started submission (added xml sitemap and verification
page to Google Webmasters - also submitted to
Yahoo Search Directory for a good early stage
dose of link strength. And with the xml sitemaps,
all four major engines encourage submitting your
new website to their engines. So we pinged them
all. Then did a quick robots file and a quick
htaccess file to dedupe the index.html page and
make the non-www version redirect to the www version.
Lastly we built a few links from directories
and related sites, just to kick start it a bit
more. Directory submissions should't be taken
so seriously, but they can work as a nice "top-up"
or starter every now and then. Sometimes you can
use something like Directory
Maximizer to submit to a bunch of directories,
but use it carefully, and pick and choose what
directories you are going to. Get a couple of
press releases out to places like 24-7 press release
and
prlog (or prweb if you have some money
to spend), do articles on places like ezinearticles.com
Week one: Tasks -
- Uploaded preliminary content (about a dozen
pages)
- Sitemapping (internal and xml)
- Submitting to major engines
- Creating a Robots Txt File and an .htaccess
file
- Yahoo Directory and a couple other basic submissions
to kickstart it.
- A few basic directories
- Ability to tag up this page on social networks
- Make sure all the links internally work
- Write up articles and press releases about
your site.
to be continued......
