Getting content
into google news -
Have had a few questions on this over the years.
Many sites have press releases and news content
that occurs somewhat frequent and were wondering
how they can get into Google's news listings which
cover a broad array of sites. They've done their
RSS feed, they have unique content, and still
can't even get in the news listings, which are
even more key now, as they sometimes appear on
top of (or within) the natural listings for many
keyterms.
There are some prerequisities. One is that you
need a minimum amount of content, but a news article
per week usually will suffice.
Secondly, and more importantly, if you ever go
on google news and click an article they all have
one thing in common. Every article's desintation
url has a bunch of numbers in it. As a result,
your site needs to put articles in this format
too, where a 3 or more digit number appears in
the URL, such as http://www.nameofyoursite.com/news/articlename-12345.html
Also note that the digits cannot be the date,
in which case it doesnt count. Then once your
url's are in the right format, you can apply for
entry.
Other check points to look at are:
- Google news prefers sites encoded in UTF-8
- Content needs to be in one language
- Page URLs should remain stable
All ready? Go to http://www.google.com/support/news_pub/bin/request.py
and submit it. From personal experience, we've
been able to get most sites with the right amount
of content into Google news. One time it took
3 months, one time it took a day!! Good luck.
